We offer single-day private hiking tours in summer and winter, as well as single-day group hikes to Larch Valley in September and October. We also offer multi-day summer hiking and multisport tours in the Canadian Rockies, and during the winter, we provide multi-day snowshoeing & hiking tours.

Who are your guides?

Our highly skilled and experienced guiding team are local to the Canadian Rockies and the mountains of Western Canada. They go through extensive training and certification in order to have the opportunity to guide you. All guides carry Wilderness First Aid training, and most of our guides are certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG), as well as the Interpretive Guide Association of Canada. They are all passionate mountain people who are looking forward to guiding you on one of our adventure tours in the Canadian Rockies and British Columbia.

What kind of fitness should I be in?

It all depends on the tour you choose to join. Generally, we recommend that guests start training up to six months before their trip with us. Training can be as simple as walking a few kilometres or miles a day, if you can do so with a weighted backpack. Great! Strength training is also very beneficial. Being strong will never hurt you; it will make you more endurant and give you the legs to hike the beautiful trails and ski the deep powder!

Do I need to tip my guides?

Tipping is part of North American service culture, although not mandatory, it is always deeply appreciated by your guides. As a general tipping guideline, we recommend tipping between 10 and 20% of the trip value in CAD. Also, it’s important to mention that we take care of all third-party vendors such as restaurants, other guiding operations and hotel staff.

What is not included in your tour’s prices?

Airfare, Travel Insurance, Incidental expenses at lodges, Ski Rentals, Snowboard Rentals, Alcohol at meals, car rentals, cost of obtaining a passport or visa, cost of getting rescued, hospitalization, anything not outlined in the What’s Included part of the trip description.

Do you offer any private departures?

Rocky Mountain Adventure Tours provides custom trips and itineraries to meet the specific needs of groups of seven or more. Accommodations, destinations, activities and meals can be designed according to the desires of your group. Pricing is determined by the number of participants, required support, level of accommodations and meals. This is an excellent option for families, groups of friends and business associates.

Why do I get redirected to another website when I click on Cycling Tours?

Our Cycling Tours are sold and operated by our sister company Rocky Mountain Cycle Tours. Rocky Mountain Adventure Tours and Rocky Mountain Cycle Tours are under the same ownership and management team, so you can expect the same high standard of service across all our tours.

What kind of weather can I expect on my tour?

Weather in the Canadian Rockies can change quickly—sun, wind, and even snow can happen on the same day. Here’s what you can typically expect on our tours (valley temps like Canmore/Banff/Jasper). Higher elevations are often 5–10°C (9–18°F) cooler.

  • Winter (Dec–Feb): -15 to -2°C (5 to 28°F) daytime, -25 to -10°C (-13 to 14°F) at night

  • Spring (Mar–May): -2 to 18°C (28 to 64°F) with big day-to-day swings

  • Summer (Jun–Aug): 18 to 26°C (64 to 79°F) daytime, 5 to 12°C (41 to 54°F) evenings; afternoon thunderstorms are common

  • Fall (Sep–Nov): -5 to 20°C (23 to 68°F) with crisp mornings and early-season snow at higher elevations

We’ll send a detailed packing list before your trip, and your guide will adjust plans to match the day’s conditions.

Do solo travelers have to share a room?

Since all of our multi-day tours include accommodations in the tour price and are based on double occupancy, we offer three options for solo travellers:

  1. Single Supplement (Private Room/Tent)
For an additional flat fee, enjoy your own private accommodation throughout the tour. Single supplement rates vary by trip.
  2. Single – Willing to Share
Pay nothing extra at booking. We’ll do our best to match you with a same-gender traveller to share accommodations. If we’re unable to find a suitable roommate/tentmate, we’ll notify you 15 days prior to departure, and the single supplement will apply. Rates vary by trip.
  3. Share with a Specific Person
If you’re travelling with someone who isn’t on the same booking, you can still share accommodations—enter their name at checkout so we can room you together.
